Bergerac Airport (Aéroport Bergerac Dordogne Périgord) is 9kms to the south east (15/20 minutes drive) with destinations to:- London Stansted, Bristol, Liverpool, Nottingham, Southampton, Exeter, Birmingham, Leeds/Bradford, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, Amsterdam and Brussels. Car hire is available at both the airport and Bergerac town.

Leave the car behind for a day and take a train from Bergerac to Bordeaux to the west, with its new tram system to view the fine architecture and shops, or Sarlat to the east a fine old medieval town.

It is an ideal central location for exploring this beautiful and popular area of France with its mild climate. Bergerac floral old town is a delightful medieval experience with a labyrinth of alleys and squares containing numerous cafes, restaurants (approx. 50 in the summer) and a variety of shops all with easy parking nearby. There is a market day in or near Bergerac on most days of the week – Issigeac market on a Sunday morning is especially recommended. Night markets are held in several nearby towns and villages in July and August where you can eat alfresco and dance the night away. Bergerac old bridge
There are acres of vineyards to the south and forests to the north. Visit the many historic Bastide towns and chateaux in the area. Perhaps you know the story of Cyrano de Bergerac – you will find his statue here. For your interest there is both a wine and a tobacco museum. Experience a trip in a Perigord Gabarres (wooden boats) along the Dordogne river from Bergerac and other interesting towns nearby. Also go canoeing from various points along the river – letting a mini bus take you back to your point of departure. Hire a bicycle (delivery and collection from our house) and enjoy the many cycle routes around the local region. We are in easy reach of several golf courses, go-karting, horse riding, Aqua-Park, swimming, ten pin bowling etc. There is a “Route de Vin” where you can go wine tasting at the many local chateaux, as well as the famous St. Emilion, Monbazillac, Pécharmant, Bergerac and more. Maybe you are interested in gardens, prehistoric caves or the famous Chateau des Milandes (Josephine Baker). Bonne Vacance!
